Vetements are back challenging your sneaker values with some perplexing looks that are almost guaranteed to be riotously popular.

Their Sock Runner — which is very much a ribbed sock attached to a running shoe bottom — returns in grey, and a sample from Reebok’s archives is being brought to shelves for the very first time.

Named the Pump Evolution Runner, the sneaker shares design language with the InstaPump Fury and is surprisingly palatable.

Speaking with Hypebeast, Vetements CEO Guram Gvasalia expounds on a variety of vaguely existent societal issues before getting into the sneaker.

‘Our team started working on this shoe over two years ago once we first went to the Reebok headquarters in Canton, Massachusetts. Demna found this amazing Pump Evolution Runner prototype in Reebok's archive that has never been produced before. It has been sitting on a shelf for almost 30 years. The uniqueness of that shoe is that it's produced with split-tooling outsoles, to maximise flexibility and minimise weight for runners. It's called split-tooling as it’s made out of multiple pieces that make up the bottom part of the sneaker. After two years of development, this and forthcoming Vetements x Reebok collaborations are created with performance running outsoles; a Reebok innovation that makes these shoes more flexible, ultra-lightweight and ultimately more comfortable than any other sneaker like it on the market – the only fashion sock runner that is tested and approved to be a true performance sneaker.’

Vetements have posted that the sneaker will debut in Hong Kong on November 18, though exact stockists haven’t been named.
